The REDMIX project team is participating in the second edition of the “From the Red Sea to the White Sea” workshop, which will be held in Tunis from 1 to 3 October 2026.
This edition will include a conference, two screenings with debates, a public lecture, and thematic courses for doctoral students and Master’s students in Political Sciences. The conference aims to compare the forms, regulations, and lived experiences of mixedness across interconnected maritime spaces, as well as to explore how their 19th- and 20th-century legacies persist in the modern societies of the Mediterranean and the Red Sea through social hierarchies, contested memories, and postcolonial dynamics.
The “From the Red Sea to the White Sea” workshop is the result of a partnership between the REDMIX Research Project, funded by the European Research Council, the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Turin, the Faculty of Legal, Political, and Social Sciences (FSJPS) of Tunis, University of Carthage, the REDI Lab, the Institut de Recherche sur le Maghreb Contemporain (IRMC), the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement (IRD), and the Diocesan Library of Tunis. It benefits from the support of the Embassy of Austria in Tunisia and is held under the patronage of the Associazione per gli Studi Africani in Italia (ASAI).
